Welcome to this year’s Library as Place conference. This year’s theme, "Weaving Stories. Tailoring Spaces: Libraries as Fabric of the Community" has us thinking about the ways in which libraries of all types support, respond to, and reflect community needs.

Limited Capacity filling up

Designing the Aaniin Library was approached as an opportunity for community-building and place-making in a suburb that has become a landing pad for Canadian newcomers. A deep multi-year dive into community engagement and consultation resulted in a library that is meeting local needs for access to opportunity and support in meeting the challenges of moving to a new country.

Presented by Deborah Walker (Markham Public Library), Duff Balmer (Perkins+Will), and David Zambrano (Markham Public Library)
